Son of VAR, Variety Club pulled his “mile magic” again on Saturday at at Clairwood when he easily won the R700 000 Gr 1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge over 1600 m after beating a small field of quality contenders in a beautifully run race! He now has 9 wins and 4 places from 14 starts under his belt, and his by now predictable streak of producing dazzling performances at his favourite distance, makes the possibility of dethroning him more and more unlikely.
Trainer Joey Ramsden thanked the team for their incredible dedication and although the champion colt is coming home to the cape for a well-deserved break, we hope to see more of him in the Cape Summer Season, after which it could be possible that he might be the first son of VAR to stand to stud on African soil.
Over and above this wonderful performance, two VAR’s made their 2 year old debut wins in fine style too: Firstly Schiffer (owned by Lindy White, Gaynor Rupert and Leigh Taberer) and trained by Dennis Drier, had great run at Clairwood in the first race of the day! Secondly Vauclair, bred by Avontuur and owned by Mrs I Jooste and Mr M Jooste and trained by Joey Ramsden, did a wonderful job at Kenilworth over 1200 m.
“What a weekend for the VAR’s”, says Avontuur GM Pippa Mickleburgh!
