Majmu Wins Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas
At Kenilworth in South Africa, Arrowfield Stud‘s reigning Champion Australian Sire Redoute’s Choice (Danehill-Shantha’s Choice, by Canny Lad) celebrated his 27th Gr1 winner when his outstanding 3YO daughter Majmu (Redoute’s Choice-Spontaneous, by Hussonet) scored a brilliant 2.5-length win for trainer Mike de Kock in the R1 million Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas (1600m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies Inara (Trippi-Mountains Of Mist, by Shirley Heights) & Double Whammy (Judpot-Frida, by Kabool). This was an exceptional performance by the Australian-bred Majmu, who could have easily trebled her winning margin at least had jockey Anthony Delpech not eased her down significantly in the concluding stages. Arrowfield Stud bred Majmu from the Chilean Gr1 winner Spontaneous (by Hussonet) and offered her at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale where she was purchased for $300,000 by Shadwell Australia. Majmu, who was crowned South Africa’s Champion 2YO Filly last season, traces her female line directly to Geisha, the dam of champion and influential US sire Native Dancer. Her record now stands at 5 wins (including the Gr2 South African Fillies Nursery, Gr3 Pretty Polly Stakes & Listed Ruffian Stakes) from 6 starts for over R1.2 million prize-money.
