With a public holiday celebrating South Africa’s heritage on Wednesday, 24 September, we felt it appropriate to do the same in our newly renovated tasting room and restaurant this month!
From Friday till the 28th, the Avontuur Restaurant will offer a special Heritage-inspired menu featuring local favourites like Chakalaka, maize meal, biltong and melktert – but interpreted in a modern way. Make a point of trying these, if successful, they might stay on the main menu this year. Starter: Roasted Tomato and thyme soup |Pesto cream| Biltong dust croutons. Mains: Fillet of beef| Chakalaka relish| Maize meal cake. Dessert:Citrus crusted Milk tart| poached Naartjie compote| Guavadilla sorbet. @ 2 course –R 200, @ 3 Course R250
In the newly renovated tasting room visitors are welcome to participate in the red wine and biltong pairing. Pop in and try Dominion Royale Shiraz Reserve, Minelli Pinot Noir or Pinotage with three fantastic biltong flavours at only R50 per head and decide which one works best!
On Heritage Day itself, we are offering our informal “Friendship Table” from 12h00-15h00 where visitors are welcome to arrive any time, and share a seat at the long table on a casual seating basis. Share a slap-up “Boere-platter” courtesy of the restaurant with local cheeses, preserves, home baked bread, biltong, dried wors and other goodies – and glass of Avontuur Pinotage each @ only R150.
