Avontuur Estate is celebrating Heritage Day with a whole month’s worth of activities to suit wine lovers and foodies.
Start off early in the month with a Vinoteque tasting on Saturday, 5 September from 11h00-12h30 celebrating the best of Avontuur’s heritage wines with winemaker Jan van Rooyen. “We chose beautifully aged red and white wines for the tasting, some of which will come as a surprise especially if you are a believer in drinking only newly released white wines,” he says. From Friday, 18/9 to Sunday, 27/9 the Avontuur Estate Restaurant is featuring a range of heritage-inspired dishes on its “Daily Specials Blackboard.” They will change regularly but guests can expect influences from across the ancestral spectrum including Afrikaans, Malay, Indian, French and British cuisine. Heritage Day itself on the 24th features the annual communal table in the tasting room, or weather permitting outside on the terrace, where visitors can enjoy a platter with locally inspired bites like Biltong Paté, a Bobotie Spring roll, a selection of local charcuterie and cheeses, typical condiments and a complimentary glass of Avontuur Cabernet/Merlot for only R140 pp. Bookings not required, but if you are a groupm, it might be better to book at winery@avontuurestate.co.za.
The monthly wine pairing in the tasting room completes the heritage theme with four wines paired with South African favourites, a biltong and dried wors selection @ R50 pp. The Tasting Room is open daily and no bookings are required.
