With Avontuur-bred Legal Eagle now the favourite for this Saturday’s J & B Met, arguably one of the best-known races in the Country, we are getting more and more excited every day.
“Although the Queen’s Plate is one of those classic races every breeder wants to win which happened for us with him a few weeks ago, in the eyes of the public, the Met is the one to win,” says Avontuur Estate’s Pippa Mickleburgh.
“A Stud farm is judged on its Gr 1 winners and sales support at the auctions very much depend on achieving those wins. For a smaller breeder like Avontuur Estate, having any Gr 1 winner is huge compliment, and we are cheeky enough to hope we make it a second time on Saturday,” Pippa explains.
From all reports Legal Eagle seems to be happy and ready for the big race, and we who saw him grow from foal to yearling, and recently to winner of the Gr 1 crown, it’s an important event too!
