September is Heritage Month in South Africa with Monday, 24 September officially “Heritage Day” and a public holiday to boot. Although the origin of the day is rooted in history and our achievements as a nation, the seriousness of the day has been “hi-jacked” a bit by a newer and more informal innovation called “Braai Day”!
At Avontuur Estate we plan to enjoy both elements of the theme with a display of historic implements and gadgets in our tasting room throughout the month and flying the South Africa national flag on our flag poles next to the R44, thereby paying homage to our patriotic side.
Over and above the heritage highlights, we will be celebrating “Braai Day” on the 24th with a Friendship Table and a great offer of a gourmet Boerie Roll, courtesy of the Avontuur Restaurant, with a glass of good old South African Pinotage to match, for only R50 pp.
“This is a first for Avontuur and we will offer this yummy deal from around 11h00-15h00 with informal seating at a long table on a first-come-first-served basis, hopefully outside on the terrace if the weather holds,” says GM Pippa Mickleburgh. “No reservations needed and we hope to introduce strangers to each other and make friends across our table, whilst happily enjoying great wine and a typical South African dish!”
The Pinotage 2008 is on special this month from the tasting room to continue our “local is lekker” theme, so pop in and buy a box of 6 bottles for only R390! (Normal price R552) and enjoy at your leisure.
