Son of VAR, August Rush confirmed his return to form on Saturday in the 1200m Gr 1 Mercury Sprint at Clairwood when he beat off stiff competition to a great win!
August Rush, ridden by top jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe, showed class from the beginning,
survived challenges by Magico and Gaultier and stuck to his guns against tough competitors, Copper Parade and Captain’s Secret who ended up second and third respectively.Having made a big impression earlier in his career August Rush failed to build on that promise, but after working hard with trainer Neil Bruss, he seems to have regained his form and looked set to be a winner early on.Obviously the team at Avontuur, where VAR is at stud, is very happy with this performance and is once again confirmed in their belief that he is a sire to take note of.
Comments Avontuur GM, Pippa Mickleburgh; “ VAR is currently lying in the top 5 of the SA general sire’s list which proves he is not only a producer of speedsters, but more and more of his progeny are holding their own in the longer distances as the recent win by 3-year old VAR filly Princess of Light over 2400 in the Gold Circle Oaks proved.”
