Fillies Guineas 2013 – Glamour and Grief go hand in hand

The 2013 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas took place on the first Saturday after the death of Nelson Mandela and whilst the flags flew half-mast all around the course, and in the country, 1000’s of visitors to Kenilworth celebrated his life with a minute of silence and a rendition of the national anthem just before the main race.

Continuous growth and increasing numbers of visitors to this family-orientated day, led to additional activities on-course and the beer garden and wine bar, the massive kiddies entertainment area, the Intercontinental Village and the new Backing the Best Chill Lounge attracted various groups to these areas on site.

Racing was exciting with some of the favourites not making it and a wonderful day for jockey Grant van Niekerk who was pulling no punches and raked in the wins!

The Avontuur Team had a great time and it was fun to visit with supporters, loyal clients and make new friends.  See you in 2014.
