Avontuur’s leading sire VAR had a double over the weekend. On Friday, his talented daughter Vivalda won for the fourth time in just eight starts while VAR gelding Vauclair, who looked so promising earlier in his career, ended the meeting in style with a gutsy win.
An outstanding sprinter, VAR has enjoyed another exceptional season this year. His representatives include Horse of the Year Variety Club and star filly Via Africa, as well as the exciting 2yo Normanz (G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes).
Var is well presented at this week’s Emperor’s Palace National Yearing Sale. His yearlings on sale include a colt out of G2 Fillies Guineas winner Glenrossal, a filly from the family of international champion Starcraft, and a half-brother to classy filly Captain’s Lullaby.
Fully booked for the upcoming breeding season, Var stands at Avontuur for a fee of R120 000.
