Seeing the race horses in the paddocks at this winery next to the R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, immediately creates the link with racing in most visitors’ minds. To highlight this aspect of the farm, Avontuur Estate and Restaurant is offering horse race themed events during winter 2015, with the “best of British” coming up on Friday, 28 August from 18h30.
Royal Ascot is arguably the most famous horse race on earth and this has led to a fun wine and food pairing called “Dinner with the Joneses”. It promises to be an evening of great food prepared by Avontuur Restaurant chefs, Melanie Paltoglou and Zunia Boucher-Myers and tasting some of the Estate’s award-winning wines, paired with and presented by winemaker Jan van Rooyen.
Dishes include Smoked Salmon Mousse or Potato and Leek soup, Beef Wellington or Fish and Chips, Bread & Butter pudding or Eton Mess, but all with a few twists in the tails!
Guests are invited to arrive wearing their most outrageous, OTT Ascot-inspired hats which could win them fun prizes.
The cost is R300 per person, which includes a welcome drink, a 3-course meal with a glass of wine paired with the starters and mains, something sweet afterwards and the service fee. Additional beverages are for your own account.
Bookings essential at openhand@polka.co.za or +27 21 855-4296. For the full menu visit the restaurant page.
