Beat your competition by identifying your REAL USP”

Avontuur Breakfast – “Beat your competition by identifying your REAL USP”
Like the rest of the world, South Africa is moving into the 4th Industrial Revolution and Artificial Intelligence is becoming a very real part of our existence. Yet there is still much value to be placed on human connection. And human connection in the business context cannot be authentic without knowing and communicating your unique differentiator. For owner run businesses who compete against large corporate multinationals, it is THIS that will set you apart, and NOT your service offering.
We need to know what differentiates us in order to sell ourselves, and let’s face it – business people HAVE to sell themselves. Although I operate in the recruitment sector, the application is very similar to business people “recruiting” clients.
Learning your differentiator in the marketplace in not as simple as coming up with a value statement. People buy from people, and they only do that if you are truly one of a kind and have instilled trust in them. It is important to realise the subtle difference between marketing yourself and not being arrogant about it. I find that a lot of people confuse modesty with humility, when in fact it is not humility to underplay one’s strengths.
Whether you are in business, changing jobs, or trying to get a promotion, you can’t succeed until you can quantify and communicate your intrinsic value add, and learn how to sell yourself as a result of that.

Chantelle Botha
Chantelle has spent over a decade in recruitment from the agency perspective, she has sat in the manager’s chair where she has recruited her own staff, and has spent a significant amount of time in solution based sales. She has been fortunate to have worked for one of SA’s leading job boards, two of the top recruitment agencies, and one of the biggest privately held colleges in SA. In most of these companies, she has broken records and improved revenue and performance. She has built a reputation as a rainmaker simply because she sees things differently and believes that no problem can’t be solved.
Some years ago, she started coaching candidates on various aspects of job search (CV and profile optimisation, interview coaching etc.) More recently, whilst at the helm of the CTU Campus in Stellenbosch, she has facilitated CV and interview workshops for tertiary students entering the job market, as well as provided advice to companies and Line Managers on how best to maximise their process for cost-saving and employee retention. It is this passion and ability to impart valuable knowledge that people can implement immediately that led to starting her own consultancy.
Currently she works with job seekers, Line Managers, Recruitment Agencies and Schools & Tertiary Institutions. Her aim is to bring a fresh perspective to every aspect of recruitment by helping individuals to identify and communicate their intrinsic value add and using this to effectively sell themselves
