Avontuur wine fans will be happy to hear that their favourite tipple is now on order from our new distributor, Halewijn, based in Belgium. More about Halewijn de Lie below and how to taste and order!
If your surname is “Halewijn”, which means “fetch the wine” in Dutch, you would probably have no other option but to enter the wine industry. And if your granny also sold wine and gin, there is just no way out!
Halewijn De Lie found that out when he started selling Cape Wines for an Antwerp-based importer in 1982. Following from those days,in 1996 he started his own business based in the historic “Boerenhuis” which belonged to his ancestors. This is situated in Berendrecht (Antwerpen) and dates from 1776. He travels to South Africa at least once per year to discover new wines and to visit existing suppliers. In October last year he was introduced to the wines of Avontuur Estate, situated between Stellenbosch and Somerset West in the spectacular Cape Winelands.
According to Halewijn, the Avontuur wines are mainly an “experience”, which is the result of a knowledge of wine making, hard work, care and climate. “These are balanced wines, white, rosé and red, which can safely be counted among the top of the South African wines. Definitely worth to go on adventure and taste,” he said.
Visit www.halewijn.be to view the price list and range and order some Avontuur wines. Halewijn can be contacted at info@halewijn.be to arrange for a tasting of Avontuur wines on site and on-line orders are welcome. Deliveries can be made anywhere in Belgium or to other EU countries.
