A tight race on Saturday at Kenilworth in the Gr2 Choice Carriers Championship between two Avontuur-bred fillies, set a high bar for the Gr 1 R1 000 000 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas which takes place on Saturday,6 December.
Cold as Ice (Western Winter x Viva) came in first in a tight race, and Jet set Go (Jet Master x Azabu Park) made it into third spot, setting the scene for a possible double whammy for Avontuur on their race day. “The one to beat seems to be Mike de Kock’s Majmu,” laughs Avontuur GM Pippa Mickleburgh, “but it looks like we’ll be in there on the day!”
The win is good news at another level as well for Avontuur as a half-sister of Cold as Ice, called Live Life (Trippi x Viva) is on the list for the 2015 Cape Premier Sale in January, and this result should give her a sales boost as well.
